Why arent teens informed?

Are there any other adults who get sick to there stomach reading some of these questions teenage boys and girls are asking about sex and pregnancy it's horrifing to think of how little they are informed. I have a 7 year old son who i think would know how to answer some of these questions these teens have. it makes me want to lock both of my kids up the day they hit 12. where are these kids parents where is sex ed in school's are there really that many clueless teens walking around? and is it just me or does anyone else want to reach through the screen and shake them.

Why arent teens informed?
well I think some of it is the shock content you give a kid free roam on the computer and they can ask anything and they want to see what they can get for reactions. some of it you do get kids from backgrounds where it isn't taught or spoken about do to "private" schooling. where better to go to get information.

it is scary to think that the world can still be like it was when my husband learning about sex(he is 45) and it just was never discussed in his house. the fact is no matter what your religion or belief it should be brought up and discussed because it is a fact of life.
Reply:Watch Dr. Drew and alot of older people are uninformed.
Reply:Well,

alot of us teens find sex ed awkward, and it didnt answer alot of our questions. We want to know more, so we go here to get answers. We dont want to talk to our parents (do you have ANY idea how awkward it would be for me, a 16yo male, to ask my MOM about sex stuff??). The great thing about the net is anonymity, so noone knows who we are.

Plus, some of these questions are just old people being perverted.

Dont reach through the screen and shake me. Its not my fault that I am uninformed.

you should be GLAD that we come here to get informed. Sure, there are alot of uninformed kids out there, but you seem MAD at us for being uninformed. At least we come HERE to get SOME KIND of answer, better than learning it on the street!!

YOu know, what is wrong with you older folks? You go through all this trouble for us kids to have great new technology to make life much more convineient, and then you get mad at us for using it. You gave us the school bus, so stop complaining about how YOU had to walk uphill-both-ways-in-the-snow-1-miles.You gave us the remote, so stop yelling at us to press the buttons on the TV instead of looking for it.

YOU gave us the internet, and now that we use it, you get mad at us and try to take it away.

To conclude, you should be glad that we are at least TRYING to get informed somehow. Its alot better than asking a teacher, friend, parent, or other person!! On the net, we can ask our question, get some answers, and noone will know who it was. Alot of my fellow teens, we all love to use the internet to answer our questions. Its WAY better than asking people.
Reply:How many adults out there are actually informed? Seems to me it is a problem with a large part of the population. Seems to me few people actually think about sex/sexuality, even though most of them are doing it.
Reply:You can thank your local church. Christianity has for hundreds of years preached that sex was bad, evil, and sinful. Consequently, it was never talked about or discussed. Since this country is predominately Christian, almost to the point of being a theocracy, no one is allowed to speak freely to children and teenagers about sex. Children and teenagers may be exposed to more sexuality now than ever before, but they still don't know the hardcore facts about sex. Parents won't speak to their children about it because the parents are themselves victims of Christianity's stranglehold on sexual facts.
Reply:I wish I can I also get tired of the how do i masterbate or am i pregnant
Reply:I know what ya mean. I have seen the questions too, and my son would never get on here and ask these questions. Whether he knew or not, he wouldnt be on here asking, hed ask me.

Hes not sexually active at 14 either. Thats what shocks me about the kids online. ...asking the questions.
Reply:I'm with you on this one! i just read one from a 13 year old who's pregnant and my brain was aching trying to think of a sensible answer. Mums and Dads need to not only teach this stuff but monitor their computers so that these little ones aren't getting false and sometimes stupid answers to very serious questions about life
Reply:Preach on Sister!! lol Seriously I feel the exact same way. But instead of wanting to reach through the screen and shake these kids, I shake my head and wonder wtf we're teaching our kids. I think the schools are leaving it up to the parents and the parents are leaving it up to the schools. I wish more people could get past their inhibitions about sexuality so that their kids don't have to come on here to ask these kinds of questions. They'd be able to go to their parents.

My 10 and 8 year olds have already gotten the "talk" because they'll be getting a little brother in January. So we had the talk early so they could get their questions answered. Plus since kids are becoming sexually active earlier and earlier I wanted them to be educated and informed so they can make good decisions.

But since it doesn't seem like people are going to start doing their parenting duties, I'll just keep acting like a surrogate parent and answering questions as best as I can; so that hopefully these kids will make better decisions in the future.
Reply:its the media affecting teens' outlooks on it....and they see all these sex offenders and say, "Oh well that will never happen to me..." but it happens everyday... movies, music, the internet and even everyday dialogue have some components in them to force one to have their "mind in the gutter." Nowadays sex-ed isn't held in school when it's supposed to be. I had mine in middle school...and in ninth grade...do you really expect me to take it seriously when we're immature? When we see it in action like a girl walking in the hall all knocked up; thats when we listen...you are right, teens aren't very informed....and i think they should be scared...most kids around my town lost their virginity in middle school....its that bad...they're immature...I think kids should be more informed and educated about this stuff....they need an awakening! and you aren't the only one annoyed by this...i too am getting sick of seeing slutty girls sleeping around and not taking responsibility and seeing their reputation go down the drain....oh and i'm only about to be 16....its insane, but really i know where you are coming from.
Reply:eew. i don't want to shake anyone. jk.

but you are right. sheltered people make stupid people in the long run. parents should teach this stuff... mine did. :)
Reply:I think they know the consequinces but because of today's media and things like that, kids think: "That will never happen to me."
