Why do teens care so much about material possessions?

I am 27, married and a homeowner.

I cannot understand for the life of me why teenagers think that their possessions mean so much. Possessions that they usually obtain using mommy and daddy's money I might add. Are we teaching our children that what you own and what you wear make you a wonderful, better person? Are we showing them that if you can't afford these things that you are not as intelligent or attractive?

Why should teens be ashamed at shopping for clothes at stores like Target or TJMaxx? And why should other teens pick on them because they're not wearing labels from Ambercrombie or Urban Outfitters? When I was a kid you wore what mom and dad could afford and you dealt with it. Some parents spend money they don't even have to keep their children in nicer brands of clothing instead of using it for things they really need.

Is it just me confused and appalled by this epidemic of kids who cherish money and fancy clothes more than good friends and family love?

Why do teens care so much about material possessions?
Part of it is how you raise them, part of it is human nature.

A lot of things that make children this way adults do without realizing it....When children hear their parents bragging about their material possessions ("we just bought the coolest tv", "our house is so much bigger than ___'s house", etc) this teaches them that He/She With The Most Toys Wins....even mommy and daddy think so! Why would they not want to "win"?

When children hear their parents focused on looks ("look at that lady's hair! how wierd!", or "wow, she shouldn't have worn THAT", or "I feel so fat today") they learn that they should expect others to judge them by their external appearance, which not only makes them more self conscious but then effects what they want to wear (their possessions) because they have learned that how you look effects how other people judge you.

These parents aren't bad people-they are just giving in and allowing themselves to judge themselves and others by external appearance and possessions. It's a part of human nature. Even you added, at the beginning of your post, that you were a home owner. That is not relevant at ALL to this question, yet you added it because you felt it would change how people percieve you. That is just one example of how human it is to be materialistic....and how easy it is to pass that on to your children.

It takes a lot of focus and a lot of energy to show your children a good example of non-materialistic views. No one is ever perfect at it, but it's definately worth trying since-as you say-it really is appaling to think that *anyone* (kids or adults) cherish money and clothes more than family, friends, and love.
Reply:It's because of our capitalistic society and parents are emphasizing getting good school to make good money more than trying to teach their children to be good people and help others.

Everything is money, money, money. On music and TV and bilboards. we spend more money MAKING money than actually EARNING money in this stupid country.

That is why our country is in debt by 9 trillion dollars. Everybody says "gimmie!"
Reply:Because their parents don't teach them right-my teens lovwe things too-but I've made them earn the money and/or consider their purchases. Donate, volunteer-and yes! Work in the house and yard! I'm such a horrible parent! HA!
Reply:Teens care about material possessions because they live in a materialistic culture.

I, too, am appalled, but not just by the kids.
Reply:grown ups do too. any new gadget that comes out my husband wants it.d

i have my things that i love too like jewlery, pocketbooks and shoes. i am not obsessive about getting new things. i just like to enjoy some things.
Reply:Im a teenager and I say its kinda sad but in this type of socity that we live in and we see all these kids with these brand names clothes and then we think that we need to have it, But far as school wise its hard beening a child going 2 school gettin teased because you dont look like eveybody else and sometimes that can take effect in a kid mind and thats why they be commting Suicide or fightinfg other kids.
Reply:Everyone is just concerned with what other people think of them. It does make me sad that so many people place so much on material things. I see so many people drive around in cars i KNOW they cant afford. It's almost the same as the young girls wearing pounds of makeup and prancing around the malls in skimpy clothes. Kids follow in thier parents footsteps, and unfortunately, a lot of parents don't set a good example.
Reply:cuz theyre teenagers.
Reply:They are influenced by commercials and peers. It's sad, but that's how the world is.
Reply:This is caused from the decay of our country and what we have all put our values on. The kids see and and react. They watch TV which have ads and they have some parents that feel the same so they adopt that same kind of materialism. The media is a big cause of this epidemic. It's not fair to kids that their parents can not afford things which causes problems in the schools. If the schools would go to uniforms all of them then possibly some of this would end. I am sure all of it wouldn't but it would help.
Reply:I don't think this only applies to teens. Ive met many adults who have also taken on this thought process. Maybe if more people did cherish good friends and family then we would have a lot less crime, divorce and abuse
Reply:most adults where I have lived, on the east coast, care so much about material possessions as well, and judge others by what they have.
Reply:I am also 27 years old and I must admit that teenagers these days are way into material possesions. They also do not know the meaning of hard work. When I was 16 I started at McDonald's and worked my butt off for 4.20 per hour. I did not want my parents to buy me things. I worked for my cd player and clothes. Since my parents were not well off I took it upon myself to better my life. And I did, now I make a lot more and I have material possesions, but I feel good because I worked hard for them. Parents these days do not teach their kids that material possesions are not important. You are who you are and you do not have to join the fad of wearing expensive things because everyone else is. I remember in 1990 everyone I knew was buying 100 pairs of jeans and the new air jordans for over a 100 dollars. I never had a desire for such expensive tastes back then, I just made do with shoes from Payless and clothes from Target. You know I didn't get my first CD player until 1994. Everone else got them in 1991. But parents need to teach their kids more about love and self respect instead of materialism. And If their friends don't want to be friends with them because they aren't wearing the latest clothes, then I guess they really aren't friends.
Reply:I wasn't that kind of teenager when I was a teen. There was one favourite store that I absolutley loved and still do, only when I can afford it is Le Chateau. I paid clothes with my own money when I was working. I didn't depend on my foster mom to buy me clothes when I was 16 and up. I bought them myself, what I wanted. Most of the time it wasn't top brand names. I never shopped at Gap, or Tommy, or places like that. They are well overpriced. I looked for sales. I used to shop at Zellers sometimes, for my son. I shop at consignment stores or thrift stores for my son and myself. I go to Clothing exchanges. You can Always find brand name stuff there...

My foster mom had 2 other kids, besides me. She was a single mom as well for awhile then she got married. So the budget was tight. We always went to sales or us kids worked and bought our own things and went to thrift stores like Value Village or Salvation Army or Consignment stores. I bought a pair of Doc Martins for $10 at a consignment store and they were practically brand new. I had them for a long time. I don't understand why parents spend money they don't have, instead of the money going to food or healthcare or education or mortgage/rent. Some parents have a really bad budget plan maybe? I am very careful with my money.

What is a good PDA for teens? Are there any PDA's aimed for the youth market?? I want something that is functional and everything, but still stylish and cool. An example would be the Sidekick, but Im in canada and they dont sell sidekicks here. So are there any othe PDA's that teens would like??

Why dont teens talk to teens online.?

teens 15-18 only

Why dont teens talk to teens online.?
I am a teen and I don't because most of those "teens" are actually 45 year old rapists.
Reply:i do lets chat
Reply:I think most of them just want to feel more grown up online.
Reply:i think youre the only teen who doesnt.
Reply:i talk 2 other teens all the time but i talk 2 who ever feels like talkin 2 me
Reply:Wut does that mean? I talk to teens ALL THE TIME! Can you explain some more?
Reply:wut do u mean? i mean yeah im 15 and i mostly talk to my teen friends on facebook, a site like myspace but much safer and for high schools and colleges. so yeah, if u mean that i am not oftentimes on my aim account. i think its just more convenient for me to be on facebook. but thats just me. i also use a cell phone to txt message frequently
Reply:I don;t know where you are but where i am they live on line.Or on PlayStation2

Reply:what are you talking about? of course they do

Why oh why does the government give teens free houses and money for getting pregnant?

Everyone wonders why there are so many teenage pregnancy's in this country (UK)

Why does the govt. give these teens free council houses, £500 maternity grant, a wage each week etc etc when they do absolute jack s**t?

from a teens point of view it's cushtie..... they're say 15, bored, hating their parents etc %26amp; think "i know, i'll have a baby and get a free house, loads of money..." %26amp; so on, not thinking once about the poor little babies their bringing into the world!

Now i'm not saying every teen is like this but it's a FACT most teens have babies because they get all this free stuff and have to do absolutely nothing!

I was 17 when i had my daughter, who's now 7, but me and my hubby worked our arses off to provide for her, we saved and saved until we could afford a house of our own %26amp; continue to work so we can afford our children...IT CAN BE DONE! i'm now 24 and have 2 more children, i'm so fed up with these teens doing NOTHING %26amp; getting everything! why is it fair they do..

Why oh why does the government give teens free houses and money for getting pregnant?
I agree with you about how unfair it seems that certain people work hard to keep their head above the water and these scroungers get to sit on their lazy bums all day, swigging beer, smoking cheap fags, leaving their poor sprogs to drag themselves up. But i have to say i wouldn't want to swap shoes with them at all. Most of these live on rough council estates, their homes are dirty, they mix with bad ppl which means their poor kids will grow up rough, likely criminal and not well educated.

Im not saying all will be like this, the odd few will come out ok but i grew up in these areas and this is what its like.

Luckily i got out of it, married a hard working guy we bought a house together and i also worked until i became pregnant and lost my job unfairly, the government paid me £100 maternity allowance a week which has stopped now, and we got the £500 maternity grant due to my hubby being on low income. My baby is 8 months and im about to start working again as we are struggling to pay a mortgage and bills.

But i know my baby is very well looked after, living in a decent friendly neighbourhood, will go to a good school and not have to be associated with the people i grew up around, and hopefully she will be able to have ambitions that she can achieve, you'll notice council estate ppl just mimick their parents instead of bettering themselves.

So just feel proud that you are not bringing your babies into that world.
Reply:I had my son at 19, where's my free house and money?
Reply:The same reason they give everyone who gets pregnant free stuff. I hope you or your kids are never in need of anything. Anyone no matter what their age gets the maternity grant and a house etc if they need it. I think that considering you have actually been through pregnancy and labour etc, what these teens (and plenty of women in their 20's and 30's etc) get off the government is nowhere near enough! I think you are an oppinionated so and so who knows nothing! I struggled for a year and yes I did accept benefits because if I didnt then my baby would have ended up in care and I would have been on the streets but thanks to our government that didnt have to happen. I am now on my feet and starting up a business and I have our government to thank for that. Is it the teens fault that you didnt ask for help when you needed it? No its not so stop resenting them!!!

Can I just add that I pay my taxes too, I did before I needed a little help and I do now I am back on my feet. My entire family have always paid their taxes too. If a girl who gets pregnant gets no help then it wont reduce the amount of pregnancys we have it will just increase problems such as depression, suicide and child murder.
Reply:They aren't doing it for the mothers, they are doing it for the innocent children. Those children might not be well taken care of otherwise. They give them free schooling so that one day they will be able to support themselves. They give them a house so that the child will have a place to live, and they give them money so the child can have good and diapers. It isn't fair that they get handouts, but it isn't fair to the child that all the other children can afford food and they can't.
Reply:So that they aren't living on the street. the children that are brought into the world are innocent and deserve care. The mothers are fools but what can you do?

you need a licence to own a dog or catch a fish, but any fool can be a parent.
Reply:i totally agree it's like you work and work, but never get ahead! my cousin is like that for the longest she would not marry her boyfriend, because then she wouldn't get free stuff. Finally she got married after three kids it was about time. I told my husband we should get a divorce, because thats the only you can actually get ahead in life being young and single!
Reply:Yeah i think this is wrong also...If the government had a zero tolerance to this being the case then teenage pregnancies would drop dramatically..
Reply:It would be nice for the government to help the working people out a little bit. I don't work because I am a full time student right now but my husband works his butt off and we get sh*t on. Even WIC is a pain. They say that the income requirements are your gross pay but they don't consider insurance and all that stuff. I know teens are looking for a way out of their parents house and not thinking long term and its not right.
Reply:bringing up children is pretty expencive thats y and not every one can afford it they give you money 2 get by just like people on the dowel
Reply:do they? but do you know how many girls who get pregnant young but didnt mean to and even used contraception etc, who are then refused housing and get through life a lot better than most, earning their own money and buying their own house. that looks like what you have done, and a lot of others do. its not fair to stereotype because of the ones who couldnt care less about their kids and only want the money and house. yes some may have it better than others, age irrelevent, but why stereotype when you dont know their sitation. well done for doing so well with your children and earning your way like the young mums i know, its great to to be able to do that, but its not fair to put the others down until you know facts. i dont completely agree with young girls getting pregnant when theyre still in compulsery education but i dont judge, as long as they do right for their child nothing else matters. they are very lucky to have children anyway, as some cant i for one might not be able to, and money etc shouldnt come into the best thing that life can bring you. most i believe correctly revolve their life around their child, and if that means getting a council house whether they want to or not, just to put a roof over their childs head and give them a chance in life, then so be it.
Reply:i totally understand where you coming from and agree not all teens are like this, but for some its not always there fault. i had my daughter at 18 carried on working while my mom looked after her and had my own privatly rented place my daughters father left when i was six months pregnant and i have not seen him since. i didnt claim any benefits. now i have moved back in with my parents and gave up work because my mom has cancer and i need to look after her so i am now claiming benefits sometimes people just dont have a choice, ie disability, absent fathers or in my case being a carer.
Reply:i feel ya sista
Reply:you are right but just to point out that all parents who have a low income are entitled to the £500 sure start maternity and the vouchers which don't give u free baby formula but a £2.50 discount. However i see ur point i had my little girl when i was 18 n me n my partner work our bums off for her to give her all she needs and wants.
Reply:I don't want them to pay me. I want to be like you, work for my babies. Something to be proud of. Also...daddy's money lol. So what? He's in jail and I know where he keeps extra cash...! lol.

Who thinks teens are misrepresented?

Teens are always labeled as the troublemakers, or that we dont know anything about the world and that we dont care...but a lot of teens know about the world and care that it has problems and know that we are the generation to fix it...but adults never seem to care. What do you think?

Who thinks teens are misrepresented?
i agree!

many people just assume that since i'm a teen i don't care about the world and i'm always into the latest trends, and i have so much drama and i don't like oldies music and that i'm arrogant/immature

not all teens are like that. I don't drive my parents up the wall and i care about the world! I'm different than what they think i am. i don't spend my money that much either. of course i wanna have fun but i can control myself

i think it's just a judgement thing. as people we judge and that sucks :(

star 4 u :)
Reply:thanks for choosing me as best answer.

of course.. our generation needs to step up to fix things :) Report It

Reply:actually the first sentence is true, because we don't know **** from shampoo, and the second is true, but only a few teens know these things, and adults never care cause the adults don't want to get shown up or they know that they know more than us, but there isn't a damn thing we can do about it
Reply:Don't be ridiculous. Media is overwhelmingly geared towards teens.
Reply:Honey, welcome to the real world. Every teenager in every generation goes through the exact same thing. It comes with the territory. I do feel sorry for your generation, however, because you're going to have a lot of crap to clean up if the world doesn't end before you turn 25.

Adults don't care because we have responsibilties...jobs, families, health problems, etc. Don't depend on us old farts for validation. Read, learn, grow and make a difference on this earth. That's all you can do. Good luck
Reply:me!me!me! i totally agree with you adults misjudge us way to often!
Reply:The fact is teenagers are stupid, sorry darling but you are. I hate to say it, but you'll understand when your older.

What item isn't marketed to teens, that I could market to teens?

I am doing a project in school. We have to find an item or product that ISN'T marketed to teens and flip it around and try and market it TO teens.

People have given me the idea of happy meal from McDonald's because it would be funny, and surprisingly a large amount of teens in this area actually buy happy meals or have contemplated it at one point or another.

Someone said credit cards, and also dating sites. Can anyone help me out? I'm really stuck.

What item isn't marketed to teens, that I could market to teens?
How about cool websites that have really cool tips about life, like the one I've got bookmarked called Starving Student's Survival Strategies. It's got some neat sh*t in it.

I'll post the link for you below...
Reply:vacuum cleaners

lawn mowers

like other cleaning products ( kinda boring )

or like a toothbrush. our class is designing an ad for the tooth tunes toothbrush...
Reply:A place to start is anything that is designed for older people. Check out the cell phone called the Jitterbug. Trying to sell that to teens would be a real challenge!

What about a cleaning service? Could you market that to teens for their rooms? Might be interesting. Most services are aimed at adults - lawncare, dogwalking, etc. Could be something in that area you could work with.
Reply:restaurants... real ones, but if its a product... then I'd say Shampoo believe it or not... could work as teens are so conscience of their bodies
Reply:Come up with something a bit more original . Children's toys have been appealing to teens for a very long time. Try looking at something that adults do, and figure out a way to make it look "cool".
Reply:Herbs %26amp; Vitamins, their good for you no matter what your age. Plus it might actually hit home with a few and do some good for somebody.
Reply:at home businesses.
Reply:"Sponsor a child" (World Vision)

or other community service.
Reply:Business fashion and formal wear
Reply:Hover-rounds (the chair for older folks)

Denture-cream

laundry detergent

industrial rubber mats to stand on when working

any of the women's magazines that has a lot of practical advice and recipes in them (my teenagers won't touch these! LOL)

toilet bowl cleaners
Reply:car floormats

with designs on them

haha
Reply:Some very good ideas here... I love the cleaning or lawn service idea, or dog walking...Concentrating on chores that teenagers usually have to do is a good angle.

Also, how about Milk or V-8 juice, or - or some other food that's good for you that they are always marketing to the concerned mother? You can make it cool to drink milk.

A Mini-van - do a great campaign about a bunch of teenagers having fun driving the mini-van to a concert or something..

Sounds like a fun project- good luck!

What is up with teens these days?

all you hear on here is im pregnant how do i tell my parents? am i pregnant? im pregnent i dont know what to do? its easy dont have sex! and if you do protect yourself! and just go tell your parents, and if you dont know if you are dont f***in ask just take a damn test!

is it just me or are teens these days just stupid? its like every generation they get more stupid everytime? now im not saying all teens are stupid some are really smart, and good for them, but seriously whats up with all these teens getting knocked up? its called a condom people and birth control use them!

What is up with teens these days?
Thank God that someone feels the same way that I do.

Your completely right, teenagers don't think and they think that they are mature enough to have sex, but not to have babies. Well lookie here hon, one leads to another if you haven't noticed! I'm only 15 and I haven't had sex, and I'm actually proud that I'm a virgin. Its a precious thing and I'm not gonna just give it away. I'm waiting for a while, at least till I'm 18.
Reply:You have to remember that for years and years kids had no one but each other to ask. Parents did not volunteer BC information and neither did churches or schools.

But for the last thirty or forty years BC has been available..and now it is pretty easy for a girl to get.

However most girls who end up pregnant seem to think it will never never happen to them..It just doesn't seem to occur to them that sex makes babies.
Reply:I just think that people just get used to these things to easy. Every year that passes by its more and more common to hear about some teenager girl that got pregnant and sometimes, she has no idea who the father is. Maybe the media makes it seem like its part of life. just like one of those movies that the girl gets pregnant, the father finds out and goes crazy and at the end, he accepts her daughter and the kid. Just listen to me and wait, very soon what is making you angry today (teen pregnancy) will be nothing compared to what is going to be happening 10 years from now. Is a matter of time.
Reply:I agree, except I'm a teen though, but I see your point completely except 4 that small point that:

1. you are talking about a small population which is unusually recognized

2. I am a virgin, drug clean, and I skipped a grade and am double majoring...

3. this occured more in the 70's where there was "the age of weed"

4. which time zone are you talking about because it was actually all of the other generations that you are stereotyping right now...

5. And usually the unfortunate 1s in which this is happening 2 where neglected and/or had problems earlier on in their lives (usually_

YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT WHAT YOU SEE ON TV, THATS LIKE ME SAYING THE SUICIDE RATE IS SOOO HIGH WHEN ITS ONLY BEING EXAGERATED FROM THE FACTS...

Hope I helped!

:)
Reply:well let me tell you my opinion I'm a teen I got a baby and not stupid but you who are you to judge you are nothing if teens get pregnant is none of your f***ing business you the stupid one here caring about other you dont feed their kids so if you dont like the questions then don't look at it you dumbass I'm sorry but I'm not going to let you judge teen some of them take care of their responsabilities ok so next time just mind you own ****** business stupid leave it to them and their parents just remember if you have kids I hope that doesn't happen to them cuz you're judging
Reply:accidents happen, making teens nervous, making them want advice.... everybody will have an accident at some point and time in there life, so i think when you have it is not that big of a deal.....

isn't it better to research and ask for advice rather than just going by what your friends say which could be completely wrong? i think teens are actually getting smarter now, maybe not about making mistakes, but correcting them.
Reply:Well aren't you just a joy!

Yes. People should use condoms. Yes they should be on BC. I was on birth control and got pregnant. At 16! Guess I'm stupid huh?

You really shouldn't judge all of us. Some of us make amazing parents and beat this steriotype.

Teens are afraid and come here for help. Instead of judging, we should be more helpful, its not like putting them down is going to make them magically not pregnant.
Reply:OMG SILLYNESS.

Reply:I'm not that bad.
Reply:Teens are pretty stupid now days and want to do what grown folks do
Reply:your right.
Reply:then stop coming on here... Jeeze

Whats up with adults on here... theyre all so bloody old fashioned!

Some Kids are Dumb... Not us all Love :)

So lets just not ok :)
Reply:Just ignore them...they just want attention!
Reply:I know! gosh, I seriously CANT believe wth is up now. o.o if u were 13 and pregnant 200 years ago, ur parents would kill you (I mean it, hang u or chop ur head off). Now all they care about is being adult when they have no idea about it -_- instead of doing something reali smart to get attenstion, like winning a HUGE international secondary school competition, they will just stand under shops drinking and making chaos...

LOTS OF TEENS THESE DAYS ARE STUUUUUUUUUUUPID. every 5th (nearly) question u click in adolescent contains something like:

"Hi, I'm 12 and I'm pregnant. I dont know how to tell my parents!"

"OMG I dont know, I think I'm pregnant what do I do? how do I know?!"

"I'm pregant because I didnt want my bf to leave me, I'm 13 please help! "

wth?! %26gt;=o stupid little babies dont know what to do! oh my, poor you...

I agree with you, girls like that shouldn't even go anywhere outside without their parents except for school, where they should be kept in classrooms for breaks and walked from and to school by Super Nanny...
Reply:I could not agree with you more I think the problem is with society in general because we live in such a fast paced world now. people are trying to groom their kids to go to college in the third grade and also our society has no tradition to make our kids women and men so our kids use sex thinking that it is the right of passage into adulthood. Also have you noticed when a 14 year old becomes pregnant people treat her like an adult instead of letting them pretend to be adults lets treat them like the stupid kids they are and take the child away from them and make them go back to school. you cant adopt a puppy until your 18 why can you have kids?
Reply:It's their parents fault. And just you wait until some of those teens have kids of their own and try to raise them and etc., it seems that lots of people don't know how to raise children these days and each generation it's just going to get worse. I'm only 19 so it wasn't long ago that I was in high school, and now I'm hearing about all these girls at my old high school that are pregnant, there weren't that many pregnant chicks when I was there, it seems to have changed that quickly. I'd really like to find these kids' parents and give em a nice swift roundhouse kick to the face. They let their teenagers run around town at all hours of the night wearing hardly anything, I just don't get it bu the parents are obviously doing something wrong, not all of them by any means, I'm just talking about the people to which you were referring.

I understand that pregnancy happens, and if you're young and you become pregnant that doesn't necessarily mean that you're stupid or you have crappy parents, I'm talking about the people that let their kids do whatever the hell they want, wear whatever the ell they want, and then these girls go and get pregnant, it's no wonder! and usually kids wind up raising their children like their parents raised them so I'm saying that we're pretty much doomed if these girls wit parents that let them do whatever they want haev kids because they are most likely going to raise their kids the same way and so forth.
Reply:OH MY GOSH I cannot agree with you more. I get so pissed when I see a pregnancy question on here, expecting people on here to KNOW if they are pregnant or not! And I agree that each generation gets more and more stupid! I dont know what is wrong with these kids, but I know Im raising my kids just like my mom and dad raised me, and my husbands parenst raised him, they are the "baby boomers" generation and as far as I can tell they were raised right. I feel like a total and complete stranger around teens my age and younger, and a lot of adults between 20-30. I dont feel like IM in the right place at all because they were all raised so different and they act so weird! Its absolutly ridiculous and even more that I cant feel comfortable around people my own age because they are so dumb and act so... weird
Reply:Ummmm... some sexually active teens DO use birth control, MAYBE if doctors invented something that was 100% (BESIDES ABSTINANCE) it would help.

Let's see, I'm 16 and..

Why do people think teens are obsessed with sex?

I dont understand why everyone thinks teens cannot stay virgins until they are married. I am a Christian and I hate how everyone puts stuff on here about how teens cant stay virgins or how it is some shocker that and 18 year old is still a virgin. I dont want to give myself to everyone and i want to marry someone who has done the same. I dont understand. Help me out here! i guess i just want ppl to know that not every teen is the same. we are not all sex-obsessed.

Why do people think teens are obsessed with sex?
Well I think that alot of girls these days think that they will only get a guy if they give it away and then eventually they become sl**s and no guys like a girl who is.

I'd rather wait till marriage also and guys like girls more when they repect themselves...
Reply:the majority are
Reply:the truth is some boys are pervs and thats why they do. those who are actually are in love do it because they want a future with thier mate that includes children
Reply:becasue most teenagers really are obsessed with sex
Reply:It's just a stereotype. The problem is, that a lot of teens WONT be virgins when they are 18. The ones that are just set a good example for the rest
Reply:Yea your right, not everyone is the same.

I was sex crazed when i was 15-19 tho i didnt show it, i would have screwed the world if i could. I was a bit of a late starter at 20, a small part of me wanted to hold it for a girlfriend. But when i had my first kiss with a girl she thought i was a liar that i was a virgin and im like all other guys, apparantly i was a really good kiss. It pissed me off when she sort of dumped me over that, like a few days later i went and screwed some woman friend that i didnt fancy.

Friends were all like, laughing that they would have raped someone by the time they got to 20. Two weeks later i found a girlfriend that was a virgin and would have slept with me if i was a virgin, lol sods law or what.

Personly i dunno what the big deal is about virginity, its just sex - fun and love. Who cares who u do it with, its all the same at the end of the day. Im sort of glad i didnt have my first time with a virgin after reading all these girls saying how they didnt enjoy their first time with their virgin boyfriend.

What do teens like to find in a book?

Im writing a book, and I need to know what teens like in a book. Its about an Upper East Side teen who wants to find the real world. Please answer.

What do teens like to find in a book?
That is awesome! I want to write a book too. I'm fourteen and I like all kinds of books. I like it when there is suspence in them, or a twist at the end. Characters that most teens have something in common with is great too. Include some family situations too. Talk about school, every teen spends a lot of time at school, and there are certain experiences that they could relate to that occur at school. Also, include lots of description ; you probably already know all of this :). What I love in books is when a character keeps a secret but then someone finds out, or he tells someone. The reaction of the person realizing what the secret is/ means is always interesting. I'm going to want to read your book someday! Good Luck in writing it!
Reply:The problem with writing other people's ideas is that they most likely won't be plots and characters that you care about! You need to write from your heart. What are your interests and passions? What do you love? What do you hate?

It takes practice to develop your own ideas. Start thinking "What if" questions about situations that might occur in your own life. Also, set aside a notebook just for ideas. If any interesting thoughts or characters pop into your head, jot them down!

What would you say if I asked "What do adults like in a book?" The problem is that teens, like any other age group, have a diverse group of interests! There's no one thing that they are all looking for in a book. You just have to write something with heart.
Reply:some romance. mystery. theres got to be some humor too. if you can tie all those together, you'll prolly make a good book.
Reply:Usually an exciting story line, a character(s) they can all relate to, something recognizable, pretty simple and straightforward. Modern culture (mention bands, book) and romance
Reply:The unbelievable in a believable way. Something happening that appears to be ridiculous but is explained in a way that makes sense.
Reply:Try reading some Gossip Girl books. They're all about teens living in the Upper East Side. They're rich, snobby, can be nice, and they deal with what older teens deal with. You should watch Gossip Girl on CW11 too. I also recommend The Clique series. They're my favorite. They totally relate to what 12,13, 14, 15, 16 year olds deal with. Boys, girl problems, school, friend fights, popularity, a lot of drama, and money money money. An Upper East Side teen would definitely have a lot of money, probably is smart with a legacy family but the teen doesn't understand the reality of the world and what people who aren't like them have to deal with. Good luck and have fun with it! I can't wait to read it. What's the title going to be? A really exciting book will always have a cliff-hanger or an unresolved problem(doesn't have to be the original, it could be a new problem that came up) to end the story. That way people will be hungry for more! You don't have to write sequels to the book, let your readers think of an end. It encourages them to use creativity in life.
Reply:well if your writing about the upper east side, then just look at gossip girl.

girls my age loveee the books and show
Reply:I find you very brave because anyon writing a book about finding peace in the real world is watched upon as an idiot. So have you ever watched the film FREEDOM WRITERS it`s an awesome movie and helps alot. Well I think that every teen wants a book to tell his story. When you write your story let it be your story. Teens are teens no matter what problems in life the suffer. You need to bring out your problem and always remeber that finding the meaning of the real world is a maze to every teen, so just say whats on yoiuzr heart. I guarantee you that it will have meaning to everybody teen or adult. A book from the heart is a book of truth...
Reply:!!

Well, when I read a book.

I don't want it to go too fast.

But not too slow.

it has to be at the speed, where if you read it, you get the idea.

The characters have to be intresting, they have to have problems and stuff.

It shouldn't be a perfect fairy tale.

There has to be some big problems, drugs, alcohol, broken bones, and fights.

Also add in some depressing issues. Like deaths, car crashes, hospitals.

Romance is fine, but don't make it a 'Love at First Sight!' thing.

Meh.

i don't know how to explain.
Reply:I think that the charcters are most important. Make the Upper East Side teen be someone we can relate to, but not boring. The main charcter should be somebody that makes us think about our own character.

Why do teens do teens think people is going to like them for the way they look?

Why do teens do teens think people is going to like them for the way they look?
Well most but not me. I really don't care if people say I'm fat or skinny, I just wan't to feel good about myself and not struggle when looking for close that can't fit. Since nowadays the best clothes is pretty much only made for thin people. I also do it healthy, I dont go over board trying to look anorexic, I eat, workout, and control my sugary cravings. It's not that healthy to be over weight if who ever thinks that, but each there own have control over there bodies. good luck
Reply:Umm, what?
Reply:hm...most teens are influenced to think that way by the media and societal pressures. the media often depicts beautiful women or handsome men with a thin waistline or with abs etc. friends and other people at school often pressure people about the way they look. almost all teens try to impress others by looking great. it's something they do...
Reply:Such is life!
Reply:People may not like them, but if they are presentably and not a freak, they will at least feel open to try.
Reply:well most teens do only like other teens for the way they look.. its all immaturaty they have yet to know about what lifes about to come ahead of them.

i learned that the best looking boy could be so rude or immature that he would mean nothing to me..

and a girl could be so pretty and skinny but if she's selfish and stuck up i wouldn't want to be her friend.
Reply:I don't know, kids nowadays seem to have a large problem with looks.
Reply:Because they have yet to know who they are- The transition from going from a child to a pre-adult is a difficult stage we all have to go through- looking back I didn't know who I was and felt that people would not like me for my personality, I didn't have much of a personality then- just tried to go with the flow and fit in. So instead of focusing on the worry of if they liked me, I felt if they liked how I looked, they would like me inside too.

Today, I am- let's just say over 30- I still care about how I look but if someone doesn't like me for who I am, I couldn't give a rats behind to it.

It isn't easy being a teen- and todays world, my heart goes out to them because I think they have an even harder time than we did. I have a 12 year old, I already see the difference as when i was her age and now with what she deals with.

Similar but more difficult with trying to find out their mission, purpose, who they are, what they would like to do someday or be etc... isn't easy.

HELP ME OUT PEOPLE!!!!!!!! teens and parents of teens please answer this it would help me out alot thanks xxx?
Yes introduce this guy to your mom it could help alot if not, then you just need to respect your moms decision.

Reply:Listen to your mother, chances are she's been in a similar situation once.

The one you bring home to mom and she likes is a keeper.

Good luck.
Reply:ur mom knows the best for u

when she knows u're ready to date she'll let u date.

dont get mad at ur mom

she loves u

u'll thank her one day,
Reply:Ur'e too young to date
Reply:Honestly, it sounds like a great idea. If your mom feels like you are including her, she may go along with it. HOWEVER, if she meets him and says NO, you have to be prepared to accept that. If you argue with this decision, you lose all of the maturity you have shown up to this point. Its a gamble. If he's a nice guy, and she can see it, it will work out. If she smells a rat, you'll need to take the loss and move on.

Good luck. The smart wager is on you, but every bet is still 50% luck.
Reply:trust me u shouldnt do it

its not worth it even if u brought ur mom it wouldnt be worth it

im 14 too and well even when u think u know a guy, they can some times surprise you trust me on this

i thought i knew this guy very well i knew him for a few years turns out he was completly diffrent than i thought he was even though we hun out a lot. but once u datee them in stuff,

but if u do go just be careful its not worth getting hurt or taken or w.e

Why wont people adopt teens..................?{adopt...

there are plenty that need homes and aren't badly behaved (at least not more than an average teen) and some dont even have a handicap

im one example but i just got adopted January 22nd 2008. i also have friends i met through my caseworker that are regular teens that need forever families.its sad when people are so cliche and want a baby with blond hair and blue

jut my opinion what are some reasons people wouldnt adopt a teen?would you honestly ever consider it, why/ why not?

Why wont people adopt teens..................?{adopt...
Simply my opinion.... but here it is...

I think most people don't want teens first because they're missing out on the entire childhood. I'm not saying that these teens are "bad" or don't deserve forever homes, but they are at the end of the childhood cycle, not the beginning.

Also, the teens are rough years. Hormones come into play, and there's just so much more work than say a child at the infant stage.

Teens that have been through multiple homes and been through the whole experience of not being wanted, are going to have some type of emotional scarring.

In no way am I saying that they are undeserving of having a permanent home with permanent parents, but it would take a very exceptional couple to be able to happily adopt teens. And unfortunitly for the teens waiting to be adopted those parents are very few %26amp; far between
Reply:Well congratulations on your adoption. I do think it’s sad that more teens don’t get adopted. People feel that teens come with more issues which can be the case even more if they have been in the FCS their whole life. I know that not all have major issues but I guess some people aren’t willing to take that chance. They want babies and toddlers, even once a child gets past the age of 4 ½ or 5 years they are considered old and harder to place. Would I consider adopting a teenager? Yes I would but since I’ll only be 25 this year. If I did adopt a teen it would be when I was in my mid 40’s to early 50’s.
Reply:i think it's bc people want the option of looking like a "real family", via infant adoption.

it all goes back to the blatent selfishness of baby stealing adopters.
Reply:Most people want babies because they will be around longer. Teenager's are hard not all of them go through being wild and un rudely. And face it most of these teenagers have been in the system to long and have had to go through alot. What would be nice is for these children to be adopted young so they will have a home of their own by the time they get to be teenagers.
Reply:because of the stereotypes.
Reply:I will consider in adopting a teen because they are children who need a family. With all the stereotypes about them they wouldn't consider them. It's the same thing as adopting a baby eventually the baby would grow to be a teenagers. Everyone has been a teenager, so adopting a teen wouldn't be wrong because you are giving them a second chance of what does being in a family feels like instead of having them live in the orphange.
Reply:It's true-teens are horribly stereotyped as "troublemakers, the ones who are going to mess up a successful home".

In my opinion, that is crap.

Some teens are very good children, just as deserving of a good home as a baby.
Reply:People don't adopt them because they will be leaving home soon and or want a little kid because he or she is cute.

Teen have tantrums and adopting parents don't like that, so they are least likely to adopt them
Reply:because people sterio type teens. They all think teens are stupid, dumb, idiotic. Well, some are, some aren't.
Reply:Some reasons they don't adopt teens are because they try to be older than they really are and it is expensive to raise teens because they want things that are very high............i would kinda consider it but they would have to be a honest person with a clean attitude.......
Reply:I actually am interested in not adopting teens, but in adopting maybe an 8 or 9 year old, and it's because, mainly, i can't stand younger children, want to help a kid in a tough situation, and i want more time then just two or three years, but i definitely would love to adopt an older child
Reply:Congrats on your new home!!! It is programmed in the minds that they are bad, too old, too close to adulthood can't really raise them, don't want to deal with the teenage problems, talking back, being hard headed, your not my parents, and etc. They prefer a baby so they will get to know them and grow attached to them and so on.
Reply:what happens is that a lot of babies that are up for adoption may have not come from a stable home and children under the age of 4 are more likely to not still have the effects of their past life in later life.
Reply:There are 10 + years of formation that have taken place in their absence.

Chances of unkown traits deep in the psychotic nature are there---a supressed history of abuse with its consequent results discourage one/make an incentive to start from scratch.

They want their own child not someone else's mistake---not in the sense of conception but in sense of failure to parent properly.

The fact that adoptee has been passed around this long indicates damaged merchandise.

Child psychologists (God bless'em!) have determined that the most important phase for character imprinting is the first 10 month or so of life ! So if you are Xteen years old you are way past the point of gaining character from the new parent !! Kinda makes ya mad huh !

the teens represent the deepest trouble availble to youngsters---fights causing serious injury/death, pregnancy, automobile driving-crashing--insurance--gotta have one--staying out too late--being mobile means access to all sorts of trouble not previously accessible--a very expensive toy for junior to play with.

Is the usual adoptive parent ready to assume this level of involvement with someone who up till this point in time was a stranger to them ? Had there been a few years to get acquainted with the kid the transition into adolescence might be easier. I remember being told that my hormones were raging ! (didn't seem that way to me though---just a few pimples and a miscellaneous erection now and then)

On the other hand some advantages exist as well:

Diaper duty

Night feedings

Terrible twos

playground spats

worry over early childhood woes(falling into pools, playing with matches, going into street w/out looking etc.)

Anyway thats my 2 ¢ worth so best of luck in your new home-----there is no accounting for what love can accomplish in this sort of dilemna and with the right people many hurdles can be successfully overcome !
Reply:i suppose people think teens are moody and not nice?! i mean, wouldn't you rather an adorable little infant?
Reply:well i dont see why if they're well behaved but they have a harder time bonding with their forever families

its basically like saying, i know youve lived like this for 15 years but this is your family now

you have to love them

it'd be hard on the kid and the parent
Reply:Congrats!! My Aunt adopted 6 almost 7 children thru foster care before she died. Four of her children were teenagers. So there are some people out there.

Myself, I have found a 13 yr old girl in foster care that i would love to adopt. Hubby thinks 5 kids are enough! I'm still working on him. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Seriously, I'm so very happy for you and your new family!
Reply:I would take in a teen, but not until my children are grown. It isn't out of concern that the adopted child would necessarily be "bad" for my children, so much as wanting to make sure I do a good job of the task at hand before taking on another.
Reply:Because they are too old. They can take care of them selves now. People usually adopt babies or newborns, since they were little.
Reply:Congratulations on your new family! We are doing our foster adopt though an agency that has a teen girls home. I have met some of the girls and would love to take them home with me. However, we won't be adopting a teen at least for a while even though going to do foster adopt. It is not because we have anything against adopting a teen, but because we currently have 11, 14, and 18 year olds living with us and another teen in the mix we don't think would mesh well with our family right now. We are looking at younger than 11 now since we would like to keep whomever we foster or adopt younger than our youngest. However, the older he gets, the more age range that opens up for us. We don't care what hair, eye, or skin color the child has, we are just ready to add to our family. :)
Reply:they probaly think they are trouble becuase puberty and they havent learned stuff like actual people who were borned to them. and also the parents probaly want to start like a new beggining and teach it from stcratch anc it probaly wont know its adopted so it will be like shes actually part of the famile and teens know whats going on so they will complain and will be depressed

Reply:People don't adopt teens because once they're grown they usually have a BAD attitude and it's hard to deal with them because they'll want to do things their own way however, if you adopt a little kid you will be able to educate him/her your own way.
Reply:Cassie

There are actually people who do adopt teens but not enough.

The other problem is that sometimes the State will not place a teen with a family unless that family has had a great deal of parenting experience.

So many people who would like to adopt have not had any children... and often times the state is worried these parents just won't be able to deal with it.

Even my husband and I were surprised when we asked to adopt children over the age of 8 and ended up being placed with young siblings under the age of 6

Most teens end up adopted in families where there is the most parents experience.... or with single parents I have noticed...

Congratulations on YOUR Adoption!!!!!!
Reply:This question shoudl be not just asked of potential adoptive parents. Adopting a teen for barren people means grieving the loss of not having children and going through the developmental states. We were approached about teenagers, but said we wanted under 6, any cultural, any disabilities etc. but no, we could not do teenagers.

In fact, those best suited to adopt a teenager may be those who have already had teenagers in their lives. To go from no children to teenager is quite a shock! Having been a foster parent I think we ALL have a responsiblity to the children in care, not just focused on adoptive parents.

By the way, the word "handicap" is actually quite offensive, the correct terminology is "person with a disability".
Reply:I am 29 years old. I had my first child at 17 years old. 4 children later my husband and I want and are looking toward to adopting an older kid. babies are wonderful but we want someone to fit in with the age range in our family. Everyone deserves a family
Reply:I don't think it that nobody will adopt teens, I think that majority feel that if they are going to adopt, they want to have more impact and development in an individuals life. Children still are being developed, however many teens are already set in their ways or they are harder to get through to because they have developed themselves. Plus they will only be adopted for a few years until they of age to leave.

My parents past away when I was younger so I was raised by one of my aunts when I was a teen. It was a terrible experience. We didn't get along and she had a hard time talking to me and I the same. I felt like Cinderella......I think she didn't know how to approach me and instead because she had her own kids. I became the step child that did all the work..
Reply:They are brats at that age. Sorry but its the truth.
Reply:because they already have values, morals and ideals that are in them and parents want to instill their values, morals and ideals in their children so they want infants or at least toddlers

i'd never adopt period as i don't want a used child but that's just me

How can teens find the truth?

How can teens relate to the idea about finding truth, ensuring loyalty, acquiring knowledge, and preventing skepticism? For instance adults can find out the truth about politicans to decide whether or not to vote for them. How can teens relate to this idea?

Reply:The Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is so beneficial that it can very easily counteract the contamination of material nature, which results from one's possessing a material body. Bhagavad-gītā therefore teaches, in the very beginning, that whether one is a man or a woman, one must know that he or she is not the body but a spiritual soul. Everyone should be interested in the activities of the spirit soul, not the body. As long as one is activated by the bodily conception of life, there is always the danger of being misled, whether one is a man or a woman. The soul is sometimes described as puruṣa because whether one is dressed as a man or a woman, one is inclined to enjoy this material world. One who has this spirit of enjoyment is described as puruṣa. Whether one is a man or a woman, he is not interested in serving others; everyone is interested in satisfying his or her own senses. Kṛṣṇa consciousness, however, provides first-class training for a man or a woman. A man should be trained to be a first-class devotee of Lord Kṛṣṇa, and a woman should be trained to be a very chaste follower of her husband. That will make the lives of both of them happy.

Also, many adults don't know the truth about politics. It's been said in surveys that teenagers know more about political lies than most adults do. So, just to put that out there.

How many teens would do this, please answer honestly?

I am thinking of starting a group for my community service for teens who need help (depression, abuse, anything). Along with counseling services from other teens and even professionals if needed, they would also form a group and help out in the community to help others and boost self esteem. How many teenagers would actually go for this?

I was a member of a youth group for Gay teens when I was about 16, and many of those kids did just what you are thinking of, aimed at helping other Gay kids who were depressed, abused, or runaways. So, it is possible to find socially conscious teens. The number may not be high relative to the general population of teens who would rather just play with their XBox, but there are sure to be some teens with the same idea and passion as yourself.

Jeep for teens?

I'm 18years old and i'm looking for my first vehicle and i'm considering a 2003 Jeep Wrangler. Do you think that this is a good vehicle for teens ? I don't really want to drive a car as it feels too low to the ground for me and where i live there are a lot of speed bumps and roads with potholes. These are the reasons why i was considering either a jeep or a rav4 but decided on the first. Could anyone tell me if these vehicles are good for teens and gave me a run down on the pros and cons vs the rav4 . Any info would be appreciated. Thanks ! oh .. btw... i'm a reasonablly good driver meaning i'm unexperianced but i don't do stunt tricks or take risks on the road. I'm very road consious.

Jeep for teens?
Jeeps are more fun, but the RAV4 is much more reliable. You shouldn't have too many problems with the Jeep until you start getting a lot of miles (over 100K). Jeeps have a lot of road noise with the canvas tops, but around town, there's nothing more fun than driving around with the top and doors off. You can always get a hardtop for winter and for better security. You also can't beat it's four wheel drive system- world class!! Enjoy if you get one.
Reply:My mom used to sell them and she didn't like them. She said they were way too uncomfortable, unsafe, and you could get a lot better a vehicle for the money spent. I know they look kinda cool but you could do better. Try looking at a smaller SUV, like a Jeep Liberty. You could get one of those fully loaded (a lot more comfy) for less that you would pay for a stripped down Wrangler.
Reply:I would not recommend the Wrangler but only personal view. I REALLY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND an import. Check the parts prices and repair parts. Terrible.

Consider the Cherokee. In production from 1984 to 2001. Part cheap, huge market of add on parts, much safer than open vehicle, If you get the 4 liter, very dependable engine.

Good Luck
Reply:well we got a 2000 wrangler 4.0L sport edition 5spd manual with about 80,000 miles on it and i can tell ya the sway bar end links are weak and when they break you will get excessive body roll. they are comfortable to drive. instrument clusters are badly designed the terminals in the back are too small for the wiring harness so it will tend to lose instruments. radiator is pathetic with the plastic tanks get one with metal tanks and expect to do the water pump at the same time. the soft tops will tear over time and if it has the soft upper doors the plastic dries and cracks. gas mileage is horrid due to the fulltime front axle, but there are conversion kits to put lock outs on to save gas. in fact there are tons of mods to improve the mileage.
Reply:Well you being a teen, i would advise you to get a car that is fuel efficient, and cheap to maintain.
Reply:I think it's perfectly fine. I know a boy who has a Jeep Wrangler he's had it 2 years, so he's had it since he was 16. When I was in H.S a guy I know he had one when he was either a Junior or Senior. I see plenty of teens driving them. Just not Wranglers but the Cherokee and the Grand Cherokee. As long as you drive reasonable you shouldn't have an problems.
Reply:I think any inexperienced driver; not just teens, should avoid driving Jeeps and truck-based SUVs until the have some driving experience first. That's why SUVs have a bad reputation of rolling over and crashing in accidents. Most people are not experienced in driving trucks or SUVs properly in emergency situations. They all learned to drive soft-riding cars with low centers of gravity, on smooth city streets from another in-experienced driver. First develop your driving skills in a regular car or even a car-based SUV.

The RAV4 would be a good choice. Once you have developed your driving skills - Probably within a couple of years if you haven't had too many accidents anyway, you would probably be ready. If you still want the Wrangler get it, find a Jeep or four wheel drive group, take a class or attend a couple of events, and then you can really appreciate the freedom and capabilities of an SUV or Jeep.
Reply:RAV4: most maneuverable, best gas mileage, smallest, most stylish, less rollover, for thinner people.

Jeep: middling maneuverable, ok gas mileage, larger, kind of boxy, military background, mild rollover. Made in Toledo, Ohio!

Hummer: least maneuverable, lousy gas mileage, biggie size, looks more like a box on wheels outside of a Scion xB, intimidating military impression, utterly blocks visibility and barely fits in parking spaces to maximize accidents, but great for conspicuous consumption of resources (whizzing away great wads of money in a wasteful fashion to show off).
Reply:i personally love my 03 wrangler,it only has 52000 miles ,so i havent had any problems.iget an average of 19 mpg with the 2.4 l,and its great fun with the top down.
Reply:a jeep is not a very good idea.. if you want to drive a lot of people around, you have to pull up the fron seat and it is a very tight squeeze in the back (i cant stand trying to force my way into the back seat- especially if im wearing a dress or something!) also, jeeps can be dangerous because they can get knocked over by the wind easier (if something happens, nothing is really protecting your head, it just a little plastic covering) plus its easier to steal (not as easy as a convertible with the top down, but something can cut through the top really easily...

choose a different vehicle
Reply:Get it. Jeeps are one of the coolest viehcles. Just if you live in a cold place be prepared for a cold hell winter. Hard tops suck they are bulky can't be tor apart and it you want to drive with the top off it takes forever to take it off. Get a soft top. Now Wranglers suck *** at off roading, if you plan to go off roading get and old CJ series. But a Wrangler is just as good.

West Palm Beach --TEN teens gang rape mother and forces son to rape her!!?

-10 teens between 14-17 raped and tortured 12 yr old and mother!

-Forces mother to perform oral sex on son

-Forces son to rape mother and vice versa

-Pours bleach in 12yr olds eye and makes him watch 10 teens rape mother

-One teen smiles when arrested..the other shows no remorse!!

-Mother and son had just moved to America to have a better life!!!!!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=cqNjeEONoDU

THIS IS DISGUSTING TO ME!! I can't believe this could have happened!! What was going thru the minds of these children? maybe to be cool...to feel superior..I DON'T KNOW..but they have damaged the mental sanity of a once pure relationship between Mother and son!!

I want to know how others feel about this incident and why do you think it happened..????

West Palm Beach --TEN teens gang rape mother and forces son to rape her!!?
As a resident of Florida, I was scared. What does one think when they see this on the news? How can somebody react coherently? I was personally left speechless. Ten teenage boys not much older than the son who was victimized chose to ruin the lives of everybody involved. No doubt there was a leader with a sicko mind and maybe a few kids who were under the influence of peer pressure, but at this stage in the game peer pressure is inexcusable. Not 1 out of these 10 boys could have said "hey, what the hell, this is disgusting, stop". Surely I do not know what it's like to be in that situation, but do they not realize how they just ruined their lives and the mother%26amp;son's? It's just wrong. There is nobody to blame but the kids, and maybe their parents (or lack thereof). The only thing left to be done is pray and offer support for everybody involved.
Reply:doesnt seem believeable to me...but you never know these days. people are screwed up these days. its like people are desinsitized, and totally devoid of any morals, ethics, and reguard for humanity
Reply:It is sick and they should all be charged as adults and punished harshly. I read an article about this the other day and one of the suspects ; Walker; his mom commented and I want to slap that woman for all of her laim excuses. I hope that this boy and mother can recieve some help and they will be able to live a normal life after this.

Why did it happen....because these 10 individuals are evil. I have a 14 year old who is just now starting to show some interest in girls. I can't even imagine anything like this from a 14 year old and well as far as I am concerned parents should still know where their 14 year olds are and what they are doing. And if someone says you can't always know what your 14 year old is doing then that is a bunch of garbage. I know where my child is, I know who is friends are as well as their parents and besides school I have control over who he spends his time with, where he goes and who he is with. 1 resident of this complex in the article I read said who cares bad things happen here all the time and apparently the walls are paper thin and nobody did a dang thing while this woman was screaming.
Reply:Personally, I think the children need to be punished and their parents.

Rape is wrong but then to move beyond that. People have no morals.
Reply:wow!! what can you even say about something like that?? what a tragedy, just unbelievable, my prayers go out to the families, even the parents of those who committed such a humanless act.
Reply:OMG I didn't hear about this. I don't think that these teens can even be called teens - they are acting like animals.

I fully believe in an eye for an eye so they should be made to suffer unspeakably like this mother and son have. There should be no remorse shown to these animals.

I think there is something very wrong with society. Especially if they are going to pick on people who aren't like themselves. I hope the full force of the law beats down on them.

Yeah they can smile now but wait till they become someone's "lady" in jail and have the same thing done to them. Then they'll know about it.
Reply:This is horrible. They are just a bunch of cold-hearted people....that is, if they have a heart at all. It's probably a sense to feel superior...but it's just plain stupid.

I also heard a story about an 11 year old girl who wanted to fit in and did nothing wrong. A group of kids invited her to a party. She thought it would just be fun and games. Instead they beat her, put her head under water and forced her to suffer while she had no air to breath, and then killed her. This was all done by a group of kids who were between 11 and 14. It's inhumane.

Just one thing. I looked up the website that posted the video. It is a racist website so chances are it did try to stretch the truth a little to make the African community look bad.

Are single teens ready to be single parents?

Without any real life experience to speak of, can teens be responsible parents?

Clearly, there just too many kids having unprotected sex, getting pregnant and for whatever the reason, deciding to keep the baby.

Most of these new parents will remain unmarried and without proper education (let alone that they will have little or no income due to lack of work experience), they will live lower-income level lives.

Is this a proper role model for their babies (the future of our country)?

And then there are too many teen parents like this little drugged-out charmer, from Oklahoma:

"An 18-year-old woman who was arrested after police found what they said appears to be beer in her baby's bottle has been charged with child endangerment."

Why do teens throw their life away?

These days, I hear more and more about teens who are having before they are married and getting pregnant. I think this is sad and disapointing. Me, being a happy teen who doesn't do that and enoys being young and free, can't understand why a young teenager, who has her whole lfe ahead of her, would go out, get pregnant, and screw her life up. A has her whole life to have a baby. It's just one example of how the choices you make affect your life - good or bad. And I mean, and pregnancy is supposed to be a special thing meant for two responsible s who can support a child financially and emotionally. Any insight?

Why do teens throw their life away?
You are correct, pregnancy is a special thing. Unfortunately, the desire to be young and free and therefore making poor decisions thrust teenagers into adult situations. Most teenagers think they are smarter than they really are. However, most will not even realize the mistakes they made as teens until they are adults living with those bad decisions or reflecting on their teenage years. Teenagers need to embrace their youth and enjoy it and not throw it away by making irrational decisions. Most all of, adults need to be better examples to these teenagers.
Reply:i dont want to sound mean but if i do o well!!! im 18 and almost 9 months i dont think we are messing up our live just by having a baby im still in high school and finishing in may have a job and pay for all my stuff i can do just the same things you can in life even if i have a child it is wrong for u to judge people before you even know there situation!!! so think before you say anything else!!! so do u think if a teen gets preg its better to have an abortion cause that is the last thing u want to get me talking about!!!!
Reply:because we just dont care, and life is too depressing not to live a little.
Reply:I agree that babies should, ideally, be born into situations that provide the most security... emotionally and financially. And I also agree that it would be ideal if people would wait until they were in a stable and long-term, committed, loving and responsible relationship before having sex... but as the old saying (by John Lennon) goes "Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans".
Reply:Because, they think they really love each other and well it just happens..
Reply:some teens are just irresponsible and hormonal raged so they don't think they just go and have sex most of them are impulsive and don't think about the results of there actions
Reply:For the most part it seems that teens are in a world of their own and have a different mindset. It is a growing process and unfortunately some things are only learned over time. It doesn't mean that all are that way though. Now that I have passed my teen years and will be entering my thirties :) I look back and see the many changes that I have had in my life. I question things that I did back in the day and wonder why I did it. I actually was a teen parent... Pregnant @ 16. It wasn't planned (of course) and I had irresponsible sex... No protection. Even knowing I could get pregnant; however having the mentality that it wouldn't happen to me. Fortunatley I had a good enough head on shoulders to finish school (on-time) and continue my education @ a University graduating in 4 years. Now I have a successful career and family. I married the same guy who I got pregnant by when I was a teen. For me it all worked out; however don't recommend it. I remember in high school girls getting pregnant just because their friend(s) did... I never understood it then and I don't understand it now. It seemed to me that they were playing dolls and dress-up with actual babies w/o realizing the total responsibility of having a a baby. Good for you that you have the right mindset... Enjoy being young while you can :).
Reply:Hell, I don't care. When they are "ruling the world" I'll be in an urn somewhere. They'll be here to deal with their own problems.
Reply:at that age, everyone thinks they are immortal and nothing can hurt them.
Reply:Teenagers think that they know everything. I thought I knew everything too! It is not until you become an adult do you really realize that you should have listened to your parents. Teenagers are IN such a hurry to grow up, and then they realize that being a grown up isn't all that they think it is.. it is hard work.. so I say be a teenager as long as you can, or you can move out, get a job, and pay for your own stuff, including rent, and bills! Good luck!! So that is what I think.. I am a mom now and I apologized to my parents!
Reply:I so agree with you. I made sure when i was 16 years old (11 years ago) when i started having sex with my boyfriend (Now husband) that i got on birth control. I went to the doctor on my own and got on the depo shot. I hate how some people say well how do i tell my mom that i want birth control, my god they can go get on it on their own without mommy's help. People has until in their 40's to have kids so i don't get why the rush.

Yes i had my son at age 21 but he was planned. I am 27 now and not yet have i had another kid. Raising a kid is the hardest job in the world. Why would any teenager want to give their fun/teen years up to raise a kid? I don't get it either.

My mom however had 7 kids and she had my oldest sister when she was 16 and the youngest at age 38. She done really good with us. We didn't do without or anything like that. But that was back in 1973. In those days she said it was no big deal to get pregnant and married at a young age.

When my mom was 21 she had already had three kids whereas me at age 21 i had my first and only kid (So far)

My mom and dad though are the best parents anyone could ask for. My dad has worked since he was 17 in the coal mines and he still works in the coal mines. He always made good money so we didn't go without anything.

Times are different now and teenage girls should be worried about school not changing diapers and getting a ride to a doctor's appointment.
Reply:So amny parents just don't really take the time to set an example and talk to thier kids about building a decent life and being successful and productive. Old fashion values are hard to fine ie: virgin before marriage, buying home before having kids, going to college, etc.
Reply:MOST OF YOU PEOPLE ARE VERY WRONG! NOT EVERY teenager thinks they are immortal. NOT EVERY teenager thinks they don't need to listen to their parents. I just turned 17 in October, and I'am 8 months pregnant. I'm thrilled, and I'm still in school. I'am going to finish school, and I have no reason not to, or no reason to not want to finish school. I'am still with the father, and we are doing great. You people need to learn not to judge people, especially when you don't know everything you think you do. We have alot of support from people that are actually decent (unlike you people). I know that I made the bad choice of having sex before marraige but I DO NOT regret any bit of it. I'm very proud that I'am having a baby. And I know that we are going to be great parents. The teenages who do make that choice will face the responsibility of either takin care of what they made, or giving their child a better place to live. And for your information, MOST of the teens that do get pregnant as teen, also get married before they get pregnant, or afterwards. And their lives turn out just fine. So DO NOT say that teenagers RUIN their lives, from being teen parents! I DON'T BELIEVE THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT IN THE WORLD LIKE YOU PEOPLE...
Reply:Many teens aren't as responsible and intelligent as you are-you have a good head on your shoulders!!! I think many who throw their lives away are ignored at home and the teens want someone to show them love either by having sex or by having a baby. It is a very sad choice! While having children is the best thing in the world, it isn't that smart of a choice and really not fair to the child to be pregnant at 13,14,15,16,17. I feel really bad for them sometimes but, other times they could of prevented it but, didn't . The scary part is that they don't even stop to think about protection either, they could end of with a deadly disease and they don't seem to care.
Reply:Because girls fall for the "if you REALLY love me you will" line, instead of telling the guy "If YOU really loved me you wouldn't ask me to.". And kicking him to the curb. They are so DESPERATE to have a boyfriend that they are willing to give up all of their hopes, dreams, and aspirations for a few months with some dickwad who's only goal is to jump her bones before he dumps her. And I agree it IS sad when in this day and age there is so much MORE for women than being a receptical for a man's sperm.
Reply:Ok I am a young mom I am 19 and have a wonderful lil 2 year old girl...It didnt screw up my life. And being pregnant and having her were miracles to me. I am very respnsible I graduated with my class with a 4.0 so dont say thigs til you KNOW everyone which you never will know all teen moms and what they do in life. There are some irresponsible ones out there belive me i know. My mom was a teen mom too and she is the CEO of her company, and has her Masters degree. I work full time 40 plus hours a week and her father (who i am still with and have been for 4 years) just graduated from college. We have a bright future together with our daughter and are both mature responsible adults. I think that you need to be mature and realize that just because your young doesnt mean that it wasnt a special thing to us. We are well off financially and emotionally. Oh and by the way most young moms have usually been sexually abused and this leads to looking for male affirmation seeking "love" or sexual activity at a young age. Dont blame us blame petifiles or rapist and molesters who roam the streets for the high % rate of teen pregnancies.
