Why are american teens so f-ing superficial? please read below?

(First of all I am American so please don't start with the if you criticize us you should move to Cuba BS.) Anyway it seems to me that so many American teens are superficial. Guys have to be big, tall and muscular, to get hot dates, girls have to be thin and look like a barbie doll do get hot dates. I have met teens who are from Britain, France, Russia, and Israel, and all of them were not superficial, but most of the American teens I've met are. Why is this.

Why are american teens so f-ing superficial? please read below?
It seems like you are interested in getting a hot date for yourself and you're not getting lucky. Who's superficial now?
Reply:Maybe you should go to different parts of the US! I live in Maryland and to get a hott date is nothing. You are what you attract. I mean alot of teens now a days are superficial but its just like they date what they are. Simple as that! =]
Reply:Generalization. Superfical is the world over. Teens grow up and most get a bit of depth to them.
Reply:Its because most parents can't be bothered to actually raise their kids anymore and expect the schools to do it for them. Our schools suck very badly, and do a really poor job of raising these kids.
Reply:As a collector I know that Barbie is a toy of fantasy and not reality. All toys are inferior ro the real things. Those who cannot tell that difference are in charge of the media that produces the ads and shows that conform to their idea. The strong influence is prolonged by public attitude. The masses just follow along behind it.
Reply:Because they are popular and if u r popular u dnt date because of personality u date because of looks. Which sux because they qet all the bad stuff. I'm not saying being popular is bad, is just dat u have 2 do it in the good way. Being popular as a leader is what i mean. If teens would choose the personality instead of looks they'll even do better in life. That's pretty much why. For them Nothing is more important than popularity...
Reply:because people here (america) are brought up based on all of the derogatory commercials and adds that degrade women and mens bodies (most people dont relize how much men are degraded though) and guys have role models that are sports players with buff bodies and hot little girlfriends. Girls have role models that are models and celebs. which enough said could stand to gain more then a few pounds.





In highschool everyone wants the storybook life of the perfect looking guy and girl couple and those who have it love it and those who dont want it even more.
Reply:It's probably because in their countries they are taught that it's not all about beauty and brawn, but that brain is important.
Reply:well,it's not like that only in America! I live in Bulgaria -a small country on the Balkans! people and especially teens are entirely different but there are some nice folks everywhere!

Reply:It's better in college. High school is , well in my opinion, a torturous experience for most people. It's a shame, but you need to know that everyone is going thru the same feelings of inadequacy and self consciousness no matter which click they are in. I agree with you that teens from other countries generally are not superficial like the American teens are. BUT we are the greatest nation in the world, (you'll agree with that face later when you are grown).





BUT THERE IS HOPE - I believe that this will trend come full circle in the near future and American teens will be real.





For example, when you have children and they are in their teens, in about 20 years or so, having experienced it yourself as a teens growing up, you will not want your kids to be shallow and fake.


So you and your generation will raise your kids to be the opposite. Hopefully it will be the trend in the next generation for the teens to not want to be superficial. That's usually how it works. A kind of rebellion of not wanting to be like "your parents" generation.





If this is NOT the case, then we will all just be a very sad group of fat, fake, shallow and embarrasing bunch of people.

they are so led around by their nose when their told what to wear how to act and think . they have lost all sense of their own identity and just want to fit into the chain of conformity so basically they don't even know their superficial they just think their fitting in with the gang
