Why are teens/adolescents so left-wing?

Being one, I have leftist positions and wonder why teens don't have right wing views as such. I understand that no teen wants censorship and most think Iraq was a bad idea and are very anti-war.

You thoughts?

Thanks

Why are teens/adolescents so left-wing?
I think that being a liberal or leftist is synonimous with change, power to the people, and rebellion against the powerful FEW. I also think most teens crave change and most rebel so its a natural fit. However, I have seen many teens that are very conservative, very religious, very right-wing. So.. I do think that it is a stereotype that is true for many but certainly not across the board.
Reply:evolution of consciousness moves in a forward direction. Conservativism is a desire to keep the status quo and liberalism is wanting change, often to redistribute power back to the people and away from the elite/corporations. There are plenty of kids indoctrinated into the conservative worldview and will not deviate from it.
Reply:Being a teen I've wondered this myself. As a generation I think we are so far the most open-minded and liberal. We have progressed so much as a society that we've become a whole different breed almost. Our views are going to change the future as soon as we're our parents' age.

I don't think we should have gone to war and it's sad because everyone who's for it is older.

What they fail to realize is that it's our blood not theirs, that's shed.
Reply:Two causes: gov. schooling and youth/idea ratio.

When a person is born he/she is exposed to the latest ideas just by virtue of being born at a later date. So you will find many teens in disagreement with their more conservative elders. I think the latest ideas that most teens today were exposed to were Clintonian. Think about it, teens were born in 1989 and this was during the fall of bush, by the time 1993 came around Clinton was beloved and by the time teens were in 1999 (only 11yrs. old) the media praised Clinton for his economic policies. Not to mention that as teens got a little older (couldn't have been more than 2000), Clinton was being lauded for his victory in the Yugoslavian war. A whole decade of hearing how great Clinton was and you expected teens to act differently? On a related note teens aren't genetically liberal -if you grew up in the Hitler Youth I'm sure you would've been a bit more nationalistic.

But as for the second note (yeah I worked a lot on this.) by making it mandatory that kids go to public school we have whole teen-cities where clinton-loving teens can get together and just become more liberal. However I have known kids who aren't liberal -conservative infact -but always NEOconservative not PALEOconservative (pro-welfare,pro-enviroment, pro-civil rights, imperialists not mildly racist,anti-immigration,anti-new deal, isolationist) and so even here the teens who are conservatives are influenced by the latest brand of conservatism -not the ancient one.

I hope that was a good answer! Also I would hypothesize that kids born today will be more conservative as they become teens and as the country becomes deeper involved in the war.
