Why do teens look up to celebrities like Britney Spears or Nicole Richie?

I was watching a news report on Nicole Richie. A girl said 'We look up to her...' And I was wondering 'What for? Why do teens have no moral leaders within their own family? These 'stars' obviously have so many problems so what is it that makes them appealing to teens? Is it money? Fame?'

Why do teens look up to celebrities like Britney Spears or Nicole Richie?
Alot of teens want to be famous, and Nicole Richie and Britney Spears represent everything they are probably not. They have wealth, hot boyfriends, a cool job, beauty, and recognition.
Reply:thier parents are like that.
Reply:i'm a teen and i don't look up to them. i actually can't see anything sensible about the two, nor that they will be good role models of the youth. even their fashion sense isn't worth the attention.
Reply:Teens look up to these people because they are idiots.
Reply:The boys want them. The girls want to be wanted. So the girls look up to them. Girls aren't stupid. They see smart, wealthy men marrying young attractive girls. They want to attract the alpha males. Girls like Nicole Richie and Britney Spears aren't the hottest woman, but somehow they still get the alpha males. Girls respect that. Rightfully so. Sad but true.
Reply:Remember when you were a teenager and how stupid you were? Same thing. It's a stupid phase where they think that being a drunken, s l u t, idiot is cool. It'll pass (for most of them).
Reply:Because the media influences today's youth and you never see any actress with morals being looked up too or on there, its always Paris, Lindsey "party girls" that are being glorified on tv. I would like to see more famous people who don't dress like trash have as much media coverage as they do.
Reply:...SOME not ALL, and lately a new awareness is beginning to rise which shows celebrities like Avril Lavigne begin the new in
Reply:First, congratulations to Grace %26amp; SWTW who help keep my faith that MOST younger folks are very intelligent and can see good and bad, but most importantly, RESIST the urge to be cool and folllow the lemmings.

I guess you have to attribute their popularity to the fact that they are both FILTHY rich, haven't worked a day in their lives, are very attractive, and manage to get splashed all over the mags and news by papparazzi. How they manage to get real TV coverage is really beyond me.

Frankly, give me a smart woman who has some common sense, and even a bit of modesty, and I'll take her over the flashy bimbos every day.
Reply:bcuz dey so kewl n i luv dey songz n dat tv show is so kewl. omg lol. :) xoxo
