Teens, do you feel like the education system is failing you?

I dont know about you, but I feel like going to school has been a waste of most of my time. I mean I spend 6 hours a day at school and often feel like Ive learnt nothing, if Im going to spend that much time there I might as well learn something. Im a good student who gets A's in the top classes but I do this without even trying most days.My teachers concentrate too much on just geting us to pass tests not actually teaching us. Students are only taught to pass tests, they never develop a love of learning or the skills needed to succeed in the real world. These problems create students who are under-educated and who are not ready for college or a career. All year we prepare for state standorized tests and thats all that counts.

It seems the day after we have a test everyone forgets all the old material and we just move on to trying to do well on the next test . Any other teens or parents feel this way?

Teens, do you feel like the education system is failing you?
I'm in college, so I don't have that problem. But I'm very much upset with the current educational system. Scrabbing arts and music classes because of "lack of funds" and giving away all the money to something as inconsequential as sports? Come on. That's just bullshit.

No Child Left Behind is ruining the educational system.
Reply:I absolutely agree with Whitney.
Reply:i feel the same way.

esp. about standardized tests. they prepare you and prepare you instead of teaching things that we might actually need.

i also think the no child left behind act is failing children by making everyone go down to where the slowest kid is. If your smart, you should be able to move forward in a class..instead of making sure its not too hard or someone doesnt understand after 3 months..
Reply:i go to a private school, so i dont generaly have these problems.

but, ive noticed that the kids in regular classes have worse teachers than the ones in honors.

though im sure the "more gifted" kids need good teachers, those in regular classes need good ones as well who dont just teach the curriculum, but actually love what they teach.
Reply:I'm not in school anymore, but the older I get, the more I realise how bad it was. Especially standardised testing. That just teaches students to learn stuff off by heart, and regurgitate it all on the day. I myself did that, and don't remember much of what I studied in school.

Sadly, it seems to be the norm now in plenty of countries. It needs a huge overhaul to actually be worth anything at all, and instill some form of actual pleasure in the students. It shouldn't all be hard work and boring - some of it should actually be fun, while still learning. I know none of my classes were like that.
Reply:i feel that way to my crazy science teacher all ways says

that we need to stop talking and concentrate more on what he is saying but he never teaches us anything and he will just say we r having a test fri and then we all fail cuz he always lecturing us saying we dont pay attention enough when he doesnt teach us

so i feel like im not learning at all and that as teens the education system is failing us also
Reply:no because i go to a private school

=P
Reply:Im 15 too i feel exactly the same way. i always thought that people should educate themselves or go to scholars... you know people that actually know what they're talking about, not people who just came from God knows where and take a test to teach the whole high school like 5 different subjects. it just horrible, id be doing just fine if not better educating myself and stuff that does matter and getting a proper education. just makes me mad wat goes on in school. i could go on and on and all though im an honor student... its no different
Reply:i feel the exact same way we are spending so much money on school but i really dont see or feel the benefit of it....kids today also dont relize (think i spelled that wrong)how lucky they are to be able to go to school and they are wasting their education nowadays for fashion, bf/ gf and other unnessecary stuff..... and this is coming from a 14 year old... i wish teachers paid more attention and got kids to appreciate school more
Reply:I feel the same way. They teach how to take test, we don't learn anything!
Reply:I do. I think standardized testing is killing us. And the tests don't even mean anything! Its a way for the state to test our teachers to see if they're doing their jobs, they don't actually care about us. Plus the school recognizes cheaters in the top of the class. I know that's not a 100% controllable, because cheaters aren't always caught, but its not fair that 7 out of the top 10 kids in my class at least, are people who cheat their way through life. ♥
Reply:Blame Bush for his stupid "No child left behind " policies.

I felt the same way when I was in high school. A waste of friggen time. Take honors classes to break up the monotony.

Cheer up doll, theres always college. Yes you pay, but quality education has never been a priority in this country- so if you want it, u gotta pay for it.
Reply:i toataly agre with whitney the only one of my teachers who realy actuly cares is my second hour world history teach she actualy inspiered me to write a book
