Do you think teens are matrue enough?

I seen alot of parents dont... I have to disagree with that. I have seen plenty of movies (life time movies base on true story)

But i am sorry to say Teens in some cases are acutally more mature than you give them credit to be. You dont give them a chance.

beause you s till think there kids. not teens.

Do you think teens are matrue enough?
Age is not a great indicator of maturity. Some kids are incredibly mature, and some adults are incredibly childish. It depends on the person. Anyone who writes someone off just because of their age is a numbskull.
Reply:Mature enough for what? Sex? Raising their brothers and sisters? Dealing with bullying? Yes in some cases they are mature enough for that, but I wouldn't say all. The reason children are not given credit for their maturity levels is because it's often the ones that aren't that are the ones in most trouble and the old saying goes is the squeaky wheel gets the most oil, so they are the ones that get the most attention.

And people think teenagers are still kids because...well they are.
Reply:I'm a parent of an 18 year old daughter, and a 14 year old son. I agree with you that sometimes teens ARE more mature than we as adults give them credit for--the one thing I've learned as a parent is that my children will ALWAYS surprize me. But it works both ways--there are times I'll think my children are ready for a responsibility, and then they do something that proves to me (as their mother) that they're not ready.

But, they're teens, they're not adults. There's a BIG difference between teenagers and adults. I realize YOU don't think so, because you're a teenager (and why aren't you at school right now?). In a few years, you'll understand what all the adults were talking about. But you're right, teens are not kids, but they're not adults either.

BTW, the movies on Lifetime--those are BASED on true stories, which means they've been fictionalized to make the story more appealing for television. Those movies are not 100% true--they may only be 50% true. To accept them as 100% fact is rather foolish.
Reply:People who think all teenagers fit into one stereotype or think that all of them are immature are nothing but ageist bigots. These "studies" are nothing but rubbish. The same "studies" used against women throughout history saying that women are "unable to think logically". Age does not determine maturity, experience does. There are PLENTY of adults who are extremely immature, yet all the hatred and ignorance is directed towards teenagers. Sickening.

haha, look at all the ageists giving me low ratings. It's ok. I take comfort in the fact that most of you are very ignorant.
Reply:i think there are a lot of immature adults just as much as teenagers. if the adults on here argue and write ignorant things b.c they lived longer then their very immature. they dont even know half the population so how could they know you or anyoneelse for that fact. they dont point proven and well i am 18 considered adult with a son on the way so they all can shove it eveyone has their own ways of experiencing things so honestly only you urself can say if you are immature or not.
Reply:What do you mean by "mature enough?" Different people mature at different rates. And there is nothing wrong with not being fully mature as a teenager because you're not supposed to be! So... yes, they are "mature enough" but not fully mature. Whether they are mature enough to DO certain things is a different question..
Reply:mature enough for what?? I presume you are saying parenting? NO. Not most anyway. I had my first when I was 16. I think I did a damn fine job, but not as well as I have done now that I am old with my other children.
Reply:mature enough for what is the question, teens are mature enough for somethings that children arent, but are by no means adults yet.
Reply:It depends. Some teens can be very mature and some can act like 3 year olds. Even the most mature teens arn't mature enough to do some things yet.
Reply:No teens are not mature. You'll learn that if you shut the hell up and watch them. As the years go by you'll learn most humans can't and will not let go of they're childhood.
Reply:teens are kids, sorry kiddo!
Reply:I watch Lifetime too and some parents don't listen to their teens. My mom didn't listen to me when I was a teen. I do think some teens are matrue though.
Reply:it all depends on the individual. you should be looking at your kids as if they were their own people, not just "the teens".
Reply:It depends on the teen. I was mature as a teen, but I helped my (single parent) mom raise my younger sister. Even though I was mature, I still did stupid stuff sometimes.
Reply:Please stop with these ridiculous questions you are only using to argue with people. And please learn how to spell or spell check!
Reply:With all the whacked questions you ask, I'm pretty sure you are not a parent, or at least not a good one
Reply:Depends on the kid. But science has proven that teenagers' brains often don't work logically.
Reply:There are some teens that are more mature then some adults I know. Don't be so quick to judge. :-)
Reply:You might make a more convincing argument if you could spell...
Reply:yup....that is very true!
Reply:in some cases sure, but usually the teen (kid) thinks that they are mature; but when they get older, they look back and can see just how immature they really were. there are some things that a teen just can't know or understand because of his/her age. like your question - you won't be able to understand why teens aren't adults until you are an adult.

*if you don't see any difference between being 21 and being a teenager, then you probably aren't as mature as you think you are. and let's pose this question: why are there age limits for things? driving at 16 (some states, 18), voting at 18, smoking at 18, gambling at 18, living alone at 18, drinking at 21. notice that most begin at the legal adult age. obviously, there is a reason for these age limits - it's because teen-aged KIDS don't have the experience, reasoning skills, and abilities to handle these responsibilities and privileges. i'm 23, so i was just a teen, really, but even i can see the difference between who i am now and i was then. even at 16-18. i was by no means immature, but i can honestly say that i am much more mature now, and will only grow in that area as i get older and gain more life experience. do i listen to teens and give them a chance? sure. but they shouldn't automatically be given responsibility and assumed to be mature just because they think they aren't little kids anymore. they earn it and prove themselves. we all had to that, and each individual must do that for themselves when they are ready.
Reply:I think some teenagers are incredibly immature. I also think that there are teenager that are more mature than most adults. Like everything else, there is not one level of maturity that all teenagers have. There isn't one particular age when a person becomes mature. It differs.

I also think that a lot of how mature a person is depends on how they were raised. I was raised as a human being, unique, and with something to offer. My parents taught me to think, and to act maturely. I am a very mature person, or so people are always telling my parents, and it has everything to do with the way my parents raised me, and nothing to do with my age.
Reply:Teens are still kids.

Maturity comes with experience and kids/teens don't have much experience.

It's not like you are a kid the day before your 13th birthday. Then the next day, when you turn 13, you are suddenly mature.

When I SEE a teenager making a mature decision, I compliment them on that. But I don't automatically assign maturity based on age. I know some very immature adults.

EDIT...You are quite wrong. Teens are KIDS. They are school age kids. They are teenage KIDS. They are still KIDS. They will be KIDS until they are adults. I see by your added comments that you are not very mature for 21.
Reply:The Terrible Teens - it's a tough time for both child and parent. First of all, I do understand where you're coming from. After all, I was a teen once (and not all that long ago), and I do remember what it's like. You're becoming more independent, and you're certainly more mature than you were in elementary school. Because of the dramatic changes you make in early adolescence, it seems like you're all grown up. However, your parents and other adults who have been through it know that you still have a lot to learn.

Don't worry, because EVERY teen thinks they have the world all figured out. Ten years from now, you'll look back and realize how much you thought you knew but really didn't. In the meantime, I think a balance is important - parents should give teens more leeway and freedom (not to mention responsibility) than they had as young children, but teens need to do their best to acknowledge that they're not adults yet and still have a lot to learn.

Teens, how often do you think about 'green'?

Seriously, how often do teens think about 'green'?

I do. I can't help being obsessed with 'green'.

PS: 'Green' is a slang term for money.

Teens, how often do you think about 'green'?
Constantly. Because I have to pay rent, utilities, phone bills, car insurance, etc. So I pretty much have to think about it all the time, talk about stressful.
Reply:Actually.. "green" is slang for marijuana. (at least from where I come from)

I think about money all the time, only because I am worried about not having enough. I'm not obsessed with it at all.
Reply:Once in a while.

We think more about what we want, than how or what we must do to obtain it.

For example, if we go to college or university, we think about the courses, friends, education and all that before we think about how we can pay for it (or how our parents will pay for it.. haha.)
Reply:atm only when i am buying something like clothes/ credit/ music. i am getting a job (im going to start tutoring math) because i will get a lot more independence with my money and it'll prepare me for the future like when i am 16 and need to take driving lessons!:)
Reply:green dosent mean money it means mary jane aka weed

and never guess thas what happens when you grow up poor you just get used to it
Reply:Well, whenever I want something. Like right now..ugh. :)
Reply:need it! im in debt :(
Reply:i dont think about money.i think about what i can buy with money.
Reply:i wish i had some more but i know its my own fault. my mother has offered to pay me if i do chores but im just too lazy =P
Reply:im not like money obsessed, but it is helpful to have a little moolah on hand. so i think about it when i need something!
Reply:Well, I just got myself a job [15 yrs old] so I can get the 'green'. But that's not really why I wanted it.

It'll help though.
Reply:Only when i really want to buy something. I am not money crazed though.
Reply:A lot. I think about how much money I am spending, how much I am making, how much I have, how much I wish I have, etc.

Employment agency for teens... What do u think?

teens are unpredictable. through an agent we might provide some assurance to the company. but there are couple of concerns here.Via agent, r the co willing to pay addition to look for minor positions? or its either the teens would be getting lesser wages for the agency fee.. which their wages are that limited already.

Employment agency for teens... What do u think?
This is a good idea, but it should be a non-profit agency that receives grants from the government, not one that takes a cut of the wages. Something like this could be a service provided by high schools, or by church groups or by volunteer organizations. It would provide teens with good work experience and help companies identify solid teen workers.
Reply:That's cool that teens can gain work experience.
Reply:I don't think a company would pay a fee to hire teens when they come in off the street daily to apply. And the kids I know change jobs as often as they change their underwear. Sorry.
Reply:i think an agency would have been a life saver when i was looking for my first job. It took me 2 years of applying before i actually got a job. And now that i think about it , i got that job through a friend of mine. Employers expect experience , but how can you get experience if they wont give you a job with out experience ? . Damn .. do it !
Reply:i think a teen employment agency would be a great idea.

i'd def. go to it, as would a lot of people i know.

Teens Age to date??

Reply:13+ depending on level of maturity.
Reply:15years, 5 months 3 weeks 2 days 19 hours 30 minutes 2.77 seconds
Reply:well iam 16 and i had my 1st bf when i was 13 ....it's better as you learn from an early age only how to deal with break-ups and with past experiences you start to know people better .....!!!!!!
Reply:after sec school would be good
Reply:Whenever they feel they are ready.
Reply:when they're mature
Reply:Well i would not support them dating until 18 and that only if thye are alreayd good in studies and made up their career well. Once you are secure of your future and have done hard work to make it secure.. then its good time to start dating.
Reply:hmm... I would say 16 or 17!

Good Luck! PeAcE!
Reply:well as soon they become independent and start earning money

cause parents will get angry
Reply:when ever you want to. :]
Reply:i started dateing when i was in 6th grade
Reply:HS years would be great for a first date...but many shoort for JHS years. I'd say at least 13+
Reply:by the time they are teenagers they could already be dating!
Reply:As the cliche goes; when they are ready. There is not magical age that signals when teenager is ready to enter a relationship, but being able to keep a pet alive, having a some money of your own, and a demonstrated ability to make rational decisions when the need is there (kids make mistakes, a lot. But what is important is the decision they make when it matters most) are good markers.

I have issues watching 11 yr olds make out.

Serious issues.
Reply:ive dated since i was really young, you know like primary school "boyfriend" when you get your mates to talk to them for you, and blush when you meet eyes and write "Mrs BlahBlah" over your school books, but NEVER TALK.

Teens and babies?

what is your take on young teens having babies? is it bad and what are the side effects on a baby born to a young mother

Teens and babies?
i personally feel like education is so important and in this day and age it is hard to do anything without an education, when you have a child as a teenager it makes life harder and stalls your ability to have that education, i really feel like we need to push abstinence more in schools and help teens to understand that you have an entire life ahead of you, why not wait to have sex and avoid the consequences!
Reply:I work at an ob/gyn office and we see a variey of ages in our office, the youngest we have seen was 12. between the ages of 12 and 18 there are significat risks to the baby.

1. No prenatal care or insufficent care.

2. Risk of premature babies

3. Risk of premature labor and complications in labor

4. Emotionally not ready for the baby and most of the babies are taken away by grandparents etc.

So yes there are pros and cons but all in all I have heard one reoccuring theme in the teenage mothers that they wished they would wait till they were older.
Reply:I've known a lot of teen mothers and while MOST of them are great mothers, a few of them missed out on their youth and are now leaving their child(ren) with their parents and going out to clubs and partying all the time. While I think people should wait until they are emotinally and financially stable until they have children, it doesn't work that way. Some "side effects" are a higher risk for underweight and premature babies (I know one teen who had her baby at 6 months and kept insisting to me her daughter was "fine" and not a "preemie." She then asked me what "premature" meant!), higher chances of not having a stable father figure present, or the inability to finish one's education. This usually leads to a vicious cycle where the children become young parents themselves.
Reply:Well I'am 19 years old, and I'am pregnant with my first child now, I don't see anything wrong with being a young mother, just because you are young does not mean you are going to be a unfit mother, there are some older mothers out there who don't know how to raise a child and who are unfit mothers, Age is nothing but a number!!!
Reply:i think u should sex for marriage
Reply:i dont think its that bad but they say that babies born to young mothers have a higher chance of being born premature....mostly because a lot of teens dont get the proper care early on.
Reply:side effects? Is it a drug? I was a teen mom. I know have 4 great kids and am happily married to the father of all 4. Yes it is hard. I think that teens should wait until they are married cause it is very hard financially. But i wouldn't trade anything in the world. I have finished school. And all my kids were born healthy. It depends on the mother and how well she takes care of herself. Not all teen moms are horrible parents. But yes there are a few exceptions. And i never partied after i had my son. And i never had my parents watch my son so i could go out clubbing.
Reply:I think it's too bad for the mother, and the child in most cases.

For the young mother, she has missed out on being young and carefree.

For the baby of the young mother, there is not much the mother can teach her child, being a child herself. And more than likely will be raised primarily by other family members and not her own mother.

The Only good thing in a pregnancy like this, and this is still no good reason, is the mother and child will be very close (maybe) and grow up together. The mother is young enough to play.

.
Reply:it depends on the teen. if the teen is more than willing to take the part of a mother and has the means to do so...let them. its no ones choice but their own. as for dangers, yeah there are but everybody has dangers doing everything. it just depends on what u do with them
Reply:I want say it is good or bad, but I will say its not easy. Being a young mother means giving certain things up. It can mean many things. Being a young mother you can finally see what you mother or whom ever raised you went through. You will get a taste of your own medicine. You can also realize that your parent(s) did the best they could. Say thank you to whom ever help you and receive all of the good advice.
Reply:A lot of times the mother just pushes the baby off onto other people, so the child ends up thinking his/her grandmother (for example) is their mother. Which is a problem. It is a problem for both mother and child, the mother thinks she can just push everything else onto other people since she did it with her child and the child doesnt really know anything about their real mother. Where I live in Texas it is not a big thing to see a 16 or 17 year old with a baby AND pregnant for a second or third. Now I see big issues in that. I am almost 23 and 21 weeks pregnant with my first, I am still young but I am ready and I will also have help. I have been with my husband for 6 years now (only 1 1/2 yrs married) so I wont be alone in it like a lot of these young girls. Kids need to learn how to have safe sex in the least. These days kids are losing their virginity so young, something needs to be done about it.

TEENS only please.....?

Does it bother you when you go out and your mom asks you to call when you get there? How about if she asks you "how was your night? when you get home.

My girl is 16 and I was just wondering how other teens feel about it. PLEASE be honest...Thank you!

TEENS only please.....?
It bothers me if those are the only questions I get about my time out. It makes it seem like you're being interrogated and not trusted. I don't mind calling when I get somewhere though. It all depends on how you ask.
Reply:my mom does the same thing with me, it gets annoying, and my dad is overly protective of me and makes it a big deal if a guy even tries to hold my hand.
Reply:it can get on our nerves sometimes expecially if we forget and you freak out and say that we just didn't want to do it. i dont mind anymore cuz im used to doing it, but maybe tell her to text you so its less embarrassing on her, if thats how she feels
Reply:nah, my parents let me off the hook
Reply:I dont mind them to ask me every now and then, but if it becomes a constant thing it gets alittle irritable.

I like my parents to be alittle bit curious about my life but not completely nosy, I suggest you give her some space every now and then.
Reply:well my mom is the same way and I'm 17 going on 18 next month you need to know that your little girl ain't that little no more and she is growing up you need to give her ,her space
Reply:yes, my dad is always like that. Ill have a great nite out and come home on time and everything and he just says hi or looks at me or whatever and it just pisses me off. idk why, but hopefully you dont piss off your kid like that. Also it can get kind of embarresing to call ur ma during chillin with ur friends or wateva. If shes16 shell have her divers licences soon enuf. Try not to get her mad , she mite consider not coming back. Sorri if that sounds harsh...... good luck wid ur teen

xoxo...%26lt;3
Reply:yes its annoying
Reply:Ok I'm 17 and my mom makes me call her everytime I leave to go somewhere....so yesterday I went bowling with some friends, then to a resturant, then a friends house and then the park....well I didn't call her at all, and she totally freaked. It sucked. But most of the time it don't bother me, because I lost to friends in car accidents so I know that she just wants to make sure that I get to places safe...but it does bother me when i forget and she gets mad...

Your second question..."how was your night." That one doesn't bother me at all, but I guess some kids could think that you were trying to accuse them of doing something wrong when they wern't...which could make them mad.

Hope this helps you.

Reply:yeah it realy buggs me because i feel like she doesn't trust me well hope i helped!
